A Sustainable Partner for Alpaca Wool Production

A Sustainable Partner for Alpaca Wool Production

In a world of overconsumption our main focus when starting DŌS was on finding a production partner. A partner that carries our values close to its heart. Responsibility is a core value that guides every decision we make. We opted for a partner that sets itself apart through its commitment to sustainability, quality, and ethical practices. Our production and sourcing is based in Peru, a country renowned for its alpaca heritage.

Selecting a partner who is based in Peru was an easy choise. Besides it being Daniela’s home company, Peru holds a rich legacy in alpaca farming. Peru is home to the largest population of alpacas in the world. The partner we are working with has been an integral part of this heritage for over half a century.

One of our core values is making mindful decisions that benefit both you and the environment. Working with Alpaca fiber is a conscientious choice at its core, and here's why; Alpaca fibre comes in more than 22 natural colours. These colours are classified into nine pure colours: White, light fawn, light camel, camel, light brown, brown grey, brown/black and black with many other subtle shades and hues. Therefore, alpaca fiber can be blended into an infinite array of natural colours, including combinations that do not occur naturally, thereby avoiding industrial dyeing and saving important amounts of water and energy. The natural colours of alpaca are undyed, hence, environmental issues associated with the dyeing process are minimized. The treatment system for the water used in the washing process of alpaca fibre requires less chemicals and energy than what is needed for other animal fibers.

In our eyes for an item to be sustainable, it must also be of high quality and able to stand the test of time. This is why we choose to work exclusively with the finest materials. Our partners rigorous quality control processes ensure that every fiber that leaves their facilities is of the highest standard. The physical characteristics of alpaca fiber, including its exceptional strength and resilience, are expertly preserved, resulting in garments that are not only luxurious but also long-lasting.

Both animals and workers are treated with fairness and respect. Our partner holds a deep commitment to ethical practices and social responsibility. Their treatment of alpacas is guided by a profound respect for these animals and a dedication to their well-being.

Their unwavering dedication to sustainability, quality, and ethical practices has established them as an exemplary partner for DŌS. Our production company holds these values close to its core.
