How to take care of your DŌS items

Hi, thank you for your wonderful purchase. Now that you've chosen to invest in a baby alpaca knit, we want to help you keep this cherished item in excellent condition for years to come. Below, you'll find some of our tips and tricks.

Baby alpaca wool is known for its luxurious softness, warmth, and durability. To maintain the quality and longevity of your baby alpaca items, it's important to follow proper care instructions. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the best practices for refreshing, restoring, and washing your cherished baby alpaca garments and accessories.

Refreshing Your DŌS Items

Over time, your baby alpaca items may lose their initial freshness. Here are some tips to keep them looking and feeling their best:

  1. Air Them Out: Hang your baby alpaca items in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. This helps to eliminate any odors and refresh the fibers.
  2. Gentle Brushing: Use a soft-bristled brush to gently remove any surface dirt or dust. Brush in the direction of the fibers to avoid damaging the material.
  3. Steam Treatment: If your item has wrinkles or creases, a gentle steam can help. Hold a steamer a few inches away from the fabric and move it slowly, ensuring not to soak the alpaca fiber.

Washing Baby Alpaca Items

While baby alpaca wool is durable, it requires special care when washing to maintain its softness and shape. Hand washing and dry cleaning are the best methods. Please note that machine washing is strictly prohibited. Doing so will result in severe shrinkage. Here’s how to hand wash your baby alpaca items:

  1. Prepare a Basin: Fill a basin or sink with cool or lukewarm water. Add a small amount of mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics or wool.
  2. Soak Gently: Submerge your baby alpaca item in the water and gently swirl it around. Avoid rubbing, twisting, or wringing the fabric as this can cause felting or stretching.
  3. Rinse Thoroughly: Drain the soapy water and refill the basin with clean, cool water. Gently swish the item to remove all detergent. Repeat until the water runs clear.
  4. Remove Excess Water: Press the item between your hands to remove excess water. Never wring or twist the fabric. You can also lay the item flat on a clean towel, roll the towel up, and press gently to absorb the water.
  5. Dry Flat: Lay the item flat on a dry towel or a drying rack in its natural shape. Avoid hanging it, as this can cause stretching. Allow it to air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

Restoring Baby Alpaca Items

With time, baby alpaca items may develop pilling or lose their original shape. Here’s how to restore them:

  1. De-Pilling: Use a fabric shaver or a fine-toothed comb to carefully remove any pills. Work slowly and gently to avoid pulling or stretching the fibers.
  2. Reshaping: Lay the item on a flat surface and gently reshape it with your hands while it's still damp (after washing or steaming). Avoid hanging wet alpaca items as this can stretch the fibers.

By following these care tips, you can ensure your 100% baby alpaca items remain soft, beautiful, and comfortable for years to come. Enjoy the luxury and warmth of your baby alpaca garments with confidence!
